Montaña de Oro State Park Poster
I designed this poster to promote the natural beauty of Montaña de Oro State Park. My goal is to inspire people to get out and enjoy nature.

I chose to use a photo to carry the most visual weight, and it draws people to my design. Psychologically, people are attracted to other people’s images and associate positive emotions with fun and exciting activities. So the goal was to draw people in with a photo of people enjoying the outdoors. It also reminds people that going to a state park isn’t limited to picnicking or hiking.

I decided to use a monochromatic blue color palette because people associate blue with freedom, sunny days, and trust.

I chose Orpheus Pro for the heading typeface because it evokes a mystical or magical aesthetic. I find that beaches and forests feel magical and spiritual, so I wanted a typeface that reflected an emotional, almost metaphysical response.
